Preservation & Advocacy

The preservation of existing Paul Rudolph structures is a key component of our ongoing mission. Partnering with organizations like the World Monuments Fund, the Preservation League of New York State and Docomomo, as well as grassroots efforts with local communities, the Foundation has helped raise awareness of Rudolph’s contributions to the built environment.

Rudolph’s architecture, like much American architecture of the postwar era, is in the process of reevaluation. Once considered controversial, these buildings are often poorly maintained or carelessly altered. Since many of these works are still too young to be considered historic landmarks, governmental protections are limited. Despite these obstacles, the Paul Rudolph Foundation has recently helped to make Rudolph’s Beekman Place residence a New York City Landmark and thwarted plans to demolish the Orange County Government Center in Goshen, NY.
